How Can You Encourage Your Employees to Perform Better?

Most employers are well aware that a contented, motivated team works far more efficiently and effectively. However, nurturing job satisfaction is a trickier task than you might imagine, especially if you’re unfamiliar with useful HR techniques.

If you’d like to encourage your employees to boost their productivity in the workplace, here are a few handy tips to help you.

Driving Employees to Better Performance

Create the right atmosphere in the office
All humans are directly influenced by their physical environment. If your office is dreary, dated and drab, this isn’t going to inspire your team to work their hardest. Focus on the following:

  • Make sure that your employees have a comfortable work station, which promotes good health in the workplace. For example, a standing desk encourages staff to get up on their feet, which can boost energy levels. Alternatively, an ergonomic chair promotes good posture and reduces the risk of back problems further down the line.
  • Consider how you can use décor to create an exciting environment to work in. Bright colours are an obvious choice. However, you might also want to sub-divide the office space into different ‘work zones’ to add variation – for example, a collaborative area, a quiet space for brainstorming ideas and so forth.

Foster a sense of pride
Think of ways you can make employees feel proud of their achievements. Even something as simple as a ‘wall of pride’, where staff can share their proudest moments, will make a difference. Always take the time to recognise achievement too – one of the main causes of dissatisfaction in the workplace is feeling undervalued.

Develop a positive, enthusiastic work culture
Right from the start, it’s important to establish a pro-active, motivated ethos in the office. Your staff handbook can set the tone – this should be given to every new member of staff as a point of reference for the future.

Invest in technology
Wherever possible, purchase technology and equipment that’ll make tasks quicker and easier for your team. Genuinely innovative technology not only boosts efficiency in the workplace, but also reinforces the message that you’re willing to invest in the business in order to take it forward.

Listen to your team
If an employee feels that their voice is unheard, this only serves to demotivate them. There are a variety of ways you can make sure each team member is listened to. For example, in meetings, ensure that it’s not the ‘usual people’ doing all the talking. Set aside time for regular performance reviews / more casual meet-ups, where employees are given the opportunity to air any grievances that they might have. An HR expert will be able to assist you with this.
